To start the Explorer, select the Windows main menu command of the program ► Standard ► Explorer. After launching the program, its window will appear on the desktop, the appearance of which may vary significantly depending on the program settings. These differences are mainly related to the appearance of the viewport of the contents of the selected folder.
At the top of the program window, as in all other programs, there is a header. The name in the header is the name of the current folder that Explorer is currently working with. Below there are menus and toolbars with which you can perform various actions with files and folders of the computer. The Address field allows you to enter the full path to a file or folder for quick access to them.
The central part of the Explorer’s working window is divided into several areas.
On the left is a list of all the disks and folders of the computer. With it, you can easily select any folder to view its contents. The contents of the selected folder are displayed in the right area of the program window (Fig.29). To change the proportions between these areas, you need to move the mouse pointer to the border separating them.
It is worth noting that you can display or remove the list of folders at any time when working with Explorer. To do this, click the button labeled Folders located on the taskbar. Each time the button is pressed, it is fixed in the pressed or pressed state. When the button is pressed, a list of folders is displayed on the left side of the program window. If the button is pressed, the list is not displayed, but the task list is displayed.
All actions are divided into three lists. In the upper part there is a list of actions for working with the current folder or with the selected file. Below are links to important computer folders. These links allow you to quickly navigate to the desired folder. The last list, located even lower, contains information about the selected folder or file.
The list of files in the current folder displayed on the right side of the window may also have a different appearance. To switch between views, use the list on the toolbar or the View menu items.
To sort files:
- by name,
- by type,
- by size,
- by date
it is necessary to select the Arrange icons item in the context menu or the View menu, then the sort type.
You can display files in the form of small or large icons, and additional information about the file will be displayed next to it. The tabular view option, in addition to the file name, displays its size, date of last save and type. By clicking on the header of any column in the table, you will sort the list of files in ascending order of this parameter. Clicking again will sort the files in descending order. Using these techniques, it is easy to find, for example, the largest file in a given folder or the newest one. It is very convenient to view file thumbnails. This mode is most often used when working with images.
